Dortmund University of Technology
In 1968, when the Dortmund University of Technology was founded, German universities were in a period of change and a spirit of reform has shaped the development of this university. Today, it has become a site of cutting-edge research with quality teaching and training for its 20,000 students in 16 schools with a staff of more than 3,000. The main research segments are Engineering and Computer Science, Natural Sciences and Humanities, Social Sciences and Economics. Throughout the university there is a commitment to interdisciplinary research and excellence in teaching as well as a strong focus on close ties to the region through collaboration with local enterprises and the adjunct Technology Park which hosts numerous spin-off companies.
“We could meet other students from different countries willing to talk and discover a lot about the cultural differences in each country. I met new friends with who I can have very rich talking, it's a very good way to open your mind to other cultures and understand them, and we're still talking together and hope we can plan something together in the future.” (Violaine Duval-Arnould, Ecole Centrale de Lille, France, 2009)
“On the academic side, the classes are challenging and definitely aggregated value to my skills set. They many times go beyond theory, entering practical activities and, for that matter, there are also the research projects to extend the hands-on experience.” (Glauber Mosqueira, University of Pennsylvania, USA, 2009)
